Memorable Ways to Say Thank You to Your Clients

Memorable Ways to Say Thank You to Your Clients

According to the National Association of Realtors, almost a quarter of agents’ business comes from former clients. A great relationship with former clients is the cornerstone of a thriving real estate business, so building and maintaining great relationships with prior clients is important for staying top of mind. Here then are a few ways to show your clients you care, and develop that word-of-mouth that results in repeat clients and referrals.

  • Make moving day special: Whether it’s pizza for the movers or gifting something you know they’ll love, moving day is a chance to really create a special moment of connection with your clients. Do they love the outdoor space of their new home? An engraved drink cooler for those outdoor celebrations might be a great gift. Are they moving in at the holidays? Have a beautiful centerpiece delivered or arrange delivery of their Christmas tree from a local garden shop. Forego the cliché gift cards in favor of something personal and thoughtful.
  • Host a housewarming party. Whether it’s for friends and families of the homeowners or a block party to meet the neighbors, a housewarming party (with coasters and napkins engraved with your firm’s logo and contact info) makes a great way to make your clients’ new homecoming special. And with the proliferation of food trucks, the party doesn’t have to be in the house. Have your favorite taco truck or sandwich truck pull up outside and feed the clients, movers, and neighbors. It’s a great way to greet the neighborhood (and make a splash yourself!)
  • Hire a cleaning crew. Do you foresee a lot of work for your clients getting their new home up to scratch? Perhaps rather than a more frivolous gift, they’d really love the gift of a good deep clean of their home before the movers arrive. And if you bring in your handyman to do a few of the smaller items from the home inspection, that will make an even bigger impression. What a way to show you care.
  • Help them learn about the local flavor. Is the client new to the area? Greet them with a gift basket full of local favorites: mugs from the best coffee shop, a gift certificate to a
favorite local market, artisanal items from the local farmers’ market, and more. These tokens will ensure that they are feeling right at home from the beginning and that they love their new neighborhood.
  • Reach out throughout the year. I know one Irish Realtor who sends out lottery scratchers with a St. Patrick’s Day card every year to give a little luck o’ the Irish to her client list. One Southern team sends New Year’s cards every year with recipes for Hoppin’ John and Greens, traditional Southern New Year’s dishes. Find a hook that you can use to connect with your clients at least quarterly. It may just come at the right time to start a conversation with them that will lead to a client referral or new business.

We all want to connect with clients on a personal level. This is hard to do if you are always trying to chase down new business. How do you spend time really showing the love to current clients while trying to figure out the ins and outs of web design, IDX, SEO, and mobile optimization? You don’t.
